Question from Runeweaver: While meditating on Hagalaz, I encountered Hel in a vision which was both frightening, fascinating, and enlightening; since that time, I have encountered her in visions and astral travel among the Nine Worlds.
Curiously enough, Hel seems to have taken an interest in me, and depending on the circumstances she can be fascinating, playful, and even seductive, although the goddess likes to play mind games with me by changing from a cold and beautiful young woman to a grinning skeleton in the wink of an eye.
My question is: have you ever heard of Hel playing such games in myth and legend or in other encounters with her? Once again, it was a pleasure to hear from you. Blessed be! Kurt Runeweaver
Answer: Greetings, very interesting and ,yes, I have heard Hella described as such quite frequently both by male and female 'workers'.
Historically, not that I know of in the 'straight' classical literature, I have read modern fantasy or sword and sorcery stories where she is indeed described as such. I think that a lot of SF and Fantasy writers do unconsciously tap in to sources of the gods and goddesses. Also it must be born in mind IMHO that the gods and Goddesses are not any more what they were described as in the second or tenth centuries.
They are sentient forms of consciousness, and the more human consciousness develops the more and complicated aspects of the various deities will be realized by the human experience.
And they too will change, a symbiotic growing process.
This certainly is the case with me and Odin, when viewed from my perspective. Therefore the experience you have had I personally would classify as genuine, both intellectually and intuitively.
